Scholars 2021-2023

Pavit

Hi, I’m Pavit Kaur, a 16 year old from UWC USA. Describing the entirety of my personality feels like a daunting task so I would like to just start with the basics. I was born and raised in Singapore, and spent the first 12 years of my life there, before moving to Malaysia where I have spent the last 4 years. Once my checklist of tasks are done you can usually find me curled up somewhere with a cup of tea and a book. I love going for runs to clear my mind and talking for hours with my friends about every conceivable topic from our reflections on current political issues to the latest Netflix series. My after school haunts rotate between the performance hall, working on the school’s play, the gym and the wonderful trails around campus.

I first came across UWC while browsing for scholarship applications and the thing that drew me to it instantly was the diversity. The vibrancy of the difference was captivating and the more I looked into it the more the objectives of UWC drew me in. The idea of building the foundations of peace and a sustainable future with young adults from around the world seems unorthodox but in reality it is extremely logical as we are this world's future. One of the issues that I am strongly passionate about is inequality in education and how access to a quality education can act as a universal equaliser. I have spent time organising drives to collect school supplies for children in need and am extremely honoured to have been given the opportunity to attend a school that shares these beliefs.

But I also am just a 17 year old girl, and as Taylor Swift says: happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time. Living on the other side of the world, away from my close-knit family, feels like a daunting thing but I know that being pushed outside my comfort zone into this immersive experience holds a wealth of excitement, adventure and growth in store for me that I can’t wait to explore.
